Swarm Hive Removals

Folks often ask why do beekeepers want to collect swarm bees, rather than just let them "go free"?
As a beekeeper who does swarm capture/removal & hive cut-outs & a conservationist:
Please contact a nearby beekeeper to trap and properly house the bee swarm before they find someones` house to move into, as these bees will probably not find an ideal tree in the "wild" before they find your, or a neighbors`, ideal spot in the house!
Honey bees are an agricultural animal that are domesticated in the US. They are not native, nor wild, in any of the Americas, nor Pacific islands. They can be an invasive species in critical habitat for native pollinators (including federally listed native Hylaeus species found in Hawai`i)
These swarm bees are looking for large old wood tree with a significant hollow OR someones` house to move into, and in most areas that are not ancient wood rural, they will find a comfy house before they find an ideal tree!
This can be a very expensive endeavor for the homeowner that is chosen & if the homeowner decides to go the "cheap" route & use insecticide spray on the bees inside their walls & ceilings, they will not, most likely not kill the whole hive, but will make many in the hive sick & toxic to other bees, so no beekeeper will want them. The sickened hive will not be able to maintain the the honey comb, which will ferment within a short period of time & then explode inside the walls/ceilings of the home, causing significant damage AND an increased pest attractant, and a very expensive repair!
